The Wellspring Studio, LLC, is an independent corporation through which Jan offers a ministry of artwork, writing, retreats, spiritual direction, and contemplative worship. Although ordained within the United Methodist Church, Jan does not draw a salary from the church. Having a call to this creative, off-the-beaten-path ministry involves finding creative, off-the-beaten-path forms of support. Centuries ago, many creative folk relied on the Church and other patrons to provide the funding that gave them the freedom to pursue their vocations. These days, artists often struggle to find a place in the Church, and patrons who will provide complete support for a creative soul are a whole lot harder to come by. While Jan sometimes has fond dreams of someone who will offer to entirely fund the non-salaried life to which she's been called, she's mindful of the ways that patronage can still happen on a smaller but essential scale.
